- Referral fee rates depend on Amazon’s fee category and, for some categories, the item-price slab.
- A 0% referral fee can be legitimate for an eligible category/slab; it should not automatically be treated as an error.
- The category visible to shoppers does not always map one-to-one to the fee category used for calculation.
- Always re-check current Amazon fee tables before making a pricing decision.
What a referral fee is
The referral fee is one of the Amazon charges associated with selling a product. The applicable percentage is driven by Amazon’s fee classification and may also vary by item-price slab. This means two products with the same selling price can attract different referral rates.
Why the item-price slab matters
Some fee categories use different rates below or above specified selling-price thresholds. A small price change can therefore move a product into a different referral-fee slab. Sellers should check the exact category and current threshold before assuming that a historic rate still applies.
Can the referral rate really be 0%?
Yes. Amazon India can have eligible category/price slabs with a 0% referral rate. A zero referral fee does not mean the order has no Amazon charges: closing fees, fulfilment/shipping charges and GST on applicable Amazon fees may still apply.
Use the fee category, not only the product name
Product titles and storefront categories can be useful clues, but fee calculations should be based on the relevant Amazon fee category. When the category is uncertain, verify it in Seller Central or against current Amazon fee guidance.
