Amazon SAFE-T Claims India: Eligibility, Evidence & Common Rejections

A practical guide to Amazon India SAFE-T claims for eligible Easy Ship, Self-Ship and Seller Flex losses, including evidence preparation, filing workflow and reasons claims can fail.

Key takeaways
  • SAFE-T is a reimbursement route for eligible Amazon-controllable losses; it is not a general refund-dispute tool for every order.
  • Use Manage SAFE-T Claims to check the order ID and current eligibility before preparing a claim.
  • Evidence quality matters: preserve the returned product, labels, packaging, photos, tracking and order/return records that support the exact loss.
  • Amazon updated damage eligibility from 1 August 2025 so primary-packaging/box damage and broken/open seals alone are not processed as SAFE-T damage claims.

1. What SAFE-T is

SAFE-T stands for Seller Assurance for Ecommerce Transactions. Amazon India describes it as a way for sellers to request reimbursement for Amazon-controllable losses, including certain damage during onward/return transit and situations where a returned product is not received in its original condition.

Amazon decides eligibility and reimbursement under the programme rules. A successful claim is not the same as proving customer wrongdoing; the seller should document the loss and the policy basis for reimbursement.

2. Which fulfilment routes commonly use SAFE-T

SAFE-T is primarily relevant to seller-fulfilled routes such as Easy Ship, Self-Ship and Seller Flex under the applicable India policy. FBA has separate inventory/reimbursement processes for fulfilment-centre, inbound and FBA-order losses.

Do not submit a SAFE-T claim simply because an order was refunded. First use Manage SAFE-T Claims to check whether the order is eligible.

3. Typical situations to investigate

Potentially eligible situations can include product damage caused in an Amazon-controlled part of transit, materially different/wrong items returned, missing parts or accessories, or other eligible return/refund outcomes where the seller should not bear the loss under the current programme.

The exact eligibility depends on the order, fulfilment method, return/refund event and current policy. Treat examples as investigation prompts, not automatic approval categories.

4. Build the evidence before filing

Photograph the returned item clearly from multiple angles. Capture identifiers, model/serial details where relevant, product condition, missing parts, the shipping/return label and any tampering or damage that is material to the product itself. Keep the original order and return records, tracking and refund reason available.

If your claim is that the returned product is materially different, show the difference. If parts are missing, identify exactly which parts. If product damage is the issue, document the product damage rather than relying only on a damaged outer box.

5. Important 2025 damage-policy change still relevant in 2026

Amazon announced that from 1 August 2025 it would no longer process SAFE-T damage reimbursement claims where the claimed damage is only primary packaging/box damage or broken/open seals. Sellers should therefore focus evidence on eligible product loss or damage and the actual programme criteria.

Packaging condition can still be useful context, but it should not be represented as an eligible product-damage claim when the current policy excludes that reason.

6. Filing workflow

In Seller Central, open Orders → Manage SAFE-T Claims, choose File a new SAFE-T claim and enter the order ID. Amazon checks eligibility before the seller continues. Follow the current prompts for reason, evidence, amount/information and submission.

Use the claim page communication/request fields for follow-up information. Keep the claim ID and a copy of what was submitted.

7. Why SAFE-T claims get rejected

Claims can fail because the order is not eligible, the seller already issued the refund, the loss belongs to another programme/workflow, the claim is filed outside the current window, evidence does not show the alleged condition, or the claimed reason is excluded by policy.

A vague statement such as “customer returned bad product” is much weaker than a factual description tied to clear photos, identifiers and return/order records.

8. Do not overclaim the reimbursement value

Amazon states that SAFE-T reimbursement is based on Fair Market Value at Amazon’s discretion under the programme. The seller should not assume the claim will reimburse retail selling price, product profit or every associated cost.

Use the amount and decision shown in the SAFE-T claim result for reconciliation. If Amazon requests additional information, respond to that request rather than opening duplicate claims.

9. If the decision looks wrong

Review the rejection reason first. If the claim workflow permits an appeal or additional evidence, address the specific reason with stronger factual proof. Do not resubmit identical evidence or change the story to fit a different reason.

For repeated return-loss patterns, also investigate listing accuracy, packaging, serial/identifier capture and internal return-inspection processes; reimbursement does not replace operational prevention.

Practical workflow

SAFE-T evidence checklist

  • Open Manage SAFE-T Claims and check the order ID for eligibility before preparing a long claim.
  • Preserve the returned product and packaging until the case is resolved when practical.
  • Use clear, dated evidence and explain the financial/product loss in factual terms.
  • Do not rely on primary-packaging damage or broken/open seals alone where the current policy excludes those damage reasons.
  • Check the current filing window and any request for additional information inside Seller Central before the deadline.

Seller questions

Frequently asked questions

Is SAFE-T available for every refunded Amazon order?

No. SAFE-T applies only to eligible orders and scenarios under the current programme. Use Manage SAFE-T Claims to check the order ID.

Can I file SAFE-T for an FBA order?

FBA uses separate reimbursement processes for many FBA inventory/order losses. SAFE-T is primarily associated with Easy Ship, Self-Ship and Seller Flex scenarios under the India policy.

Is damaged outer packaging enough for a SAFE-T damage claim?

Amazon announced that from 1 August 2025 primary-packaging/box damage and broken/open seals alone are not processed as SAFE-T damage claims. Document actual eligible product loss/damage and check the current policy.

What evidence should I keep?

Order/return details, tracking, clear photos of the returned item and relevant labels/packaging, identifiers/serials where applicable, and evidence showing the exact damage, difference or missing contents.

Does Amazon reimburse the full selling price?

Not necessarily. Amazon states SAFE-T reimbursement is based on Fair Market Value at its discretion under the programme rules.
